The Task Force for removal of encroachments
08.07.06 (11:42 pm)   [edit]
Chandigarh, August 7 :- The Task Force is proving to be a very practical
and successful mechanism of reporting, and, removal of encroachments on
day-to-day basis. The success of the Task Force can be gauged from the
fact that in the month of July, 2006 alone, 89 encroachments from
different parts of Union Territory, Chandigarh have been removed by the
Task Force.
Earlier prior to the constitution of Task Force, cases of encroachments,
in some cases, used to remain unnoticed for a longer time, with the
result, clusters of encroachments came up. But, with the constitution of
Task Force, detection and reporting system of encroachments and their
subsequent removal has been very quick and easy.
For timely detection, and, removal of encroachments on government lands,
the U.T. Administration had constituted a Task Force. The Task Force
consisted of Assistant Engineers/Junior Engineers/Sub Inspectors
Enforcement belonging to Estate Office, Engineering Department and
Municipal Corporation. Each official was assigned a particular area for
ensuring that any unauthorized construction/encroachment is detected at
the time of its occurrence, and, to be removed immediately. Each field
official has been made accountable for any encroachment on government
land under his jurisdiction.
All the three SDMs have been made Incharge of the Task Force of their
respective areas. The SDMs ensure that encroachments detected are
reported on day-to-day basis, and, removed immediately, in coordination
with the police officials of Sub-division concerned. SDMs hold weekly
monitoring meetings with supervisory staff of the field. Weekly
progress report are regularly sent to the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate
Officer, U.T. Chandigarh. Deputy Commissioner also holds review meetings
with the SDMs.
