A Special Lok Adalat at pre-litigative stage was held

Chandigarh August 3:- A Special Lok Adalat at pre-litigative stage was
held in the premises of the State Legal Services Authority, Ground Floor,
Additional, Deluxe Building, Sector-9, Chandigarh today to settle the
outstanding dues relating to HFCL Infotel Ltd. under the aegis of Hon’ble
Mr. Justice Amar Dutt, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court-cum-Executive
Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh. This Special
Lok Adalat was presided over by Shri. R.K. Sharma, Member Secretary,
State Legal Services Authority-cum-Judge Permanent Lok Adalat, Union
Territory, Chandigarh. Smt. Amar Kulwant Singh was associated as Member.
The Special Lok Adalat settled 48 cases and a sum of Rs.90,000/-
approximately was awarded. A sum of Rs.30,400/- has been recovered in
cash on the spot. Shri. Rohit Suri, Advocate, Shri. Mukesh
Maini, Sr. Officer and Ms. Priya Mahajan, Legal Head, represented the
HFCL Infotel, Ltd. as appellants.
Shri. R.K.Sharma, Member Secretary, State Legal Services
Authority-cum-Judge Permanent Lok Adalat (District Courts), Union
Territory, Chandigarh revealed that the award passed by the Lok Adalat
consequent upon the compromise arrived at between the parties in dispute
is final and binding with no further right to appeal. He further told
that any person before going to the court of law can approach the Member
Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Union Territory, Chandigarh
with a simple application for the settlement of any dispute through Lok
Adalat where no court fee etc. is required to be paid. Fee and prompt
legal aid is also provided to the beneficiaries under Section 12 of the
Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. Member Secretary told that the
Authority is contemplating in organizing more such Special Lok Adalats
in near future.
