Chandigarh July 28:- For the promotion of Tourism in a big way, the Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with the CII will hold a mega Tourism Convention in October annually in the City Beautiful, in which Departments of Tourism from all over the country and delegates from abroad, will participate and deliberate on various issues of the tourism. It has also been decided to organize New Year Festival in last week of December 2006 and first week of January in a big way. During this festival, all government buildings will be illuminated, fire weeks will be organized and Shopping Week will be held. The Governments of Punjab and Haryana will also be requested to join the celebration. This was decided at a first meeting of the newly reconstituted Tourism Advisory Committee of U.T., Chandigarh, chaired by the Home-cum-Tourism Secretary, Sh.Krishna Mohan and attended by the Managing Director, CITCO, Sh.J.S.Bir, the Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Development Corporation, Shi Vijai Vardhan, the S.S.P., U.T., Sh.Gaurav Yadav, the Chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board, Sh.Amar Nath, the Director Tourism, Sh.Vivek Atray, the Director Chandigarh Airport, Sh.Sunil Dutt, the Advisor(Trade) Consulate General of Canada, Sh.G.S.Sobti, the Principal, Institute of Hotel Management, Sh.Navin Kumar, the Proprietor, Hotel President, Sh.B.B.Behl and Sh Ankit Gupta of Hotel Himani. While chairing the meeting, Sh.Krishna Mohan disclosed that the strength of the existing A.C. Taxies would be increased to 350 and non A.C. Taxies would also be introduced so as to suit every pocket. He also added that the Administration would also introduce A.C. Buses in the city for designated tour on the pattern of Hop on Hop off bus, besides starting Light and Sound Programme from November 1, 2006 at Government Museum and Art Gallery, which would be a major tourist attraction. While requesting the members to send their suggestions in writing for further improving tourism and the tourism website, Sh.Mohan said that the proposed Theme Park would be completed within a 2 to 3 years time and medical fraternity would also be associated for the promotion of medical tourism. He also disclosed that the Chandigarh Tourism would initially promote Khuda Lahora and Khuda Alisher in order to promote rural tourism in the City Beautiful. The Director Tourism, Sh.Vivek Atray, presented Tourism Action Plan on Chandigarh on which detailed deliberations were held.
