| e-Governance is putting people first |
| 07.21.06 (11:20 pm) [edit] |
|
Chandigarh, July 21:Mr. Neel Rattan, Executive Director Business Solutions, Price Waterhouse Coopers, said that need of the hour for country like India is to put citizens first, and empower them and focus on governance rather than the technology, which is just an enabler.

Mr. Vinesh Paperwala, District Manager South East Asia, Intel, said that in order to implement the e-governance issue and take the transformation in the fields of health, education, training, rural is no longer rural, since it concerns citizens all across the country, Intel was involved working closely with the state governments and had been at the forefront in training over 550,000 teachers in various states including Panjab.
He informed that Intel was engaged in localizing the technology to meet the needs of each country and said that special PCs are being developed in their facility in Bangalore which are rugged and can face the rigours of operating them in rural environments, and similarly new tablet computer is being developed, again in Bangalore, for children in school.

Mobile is no longer a communication devices it is about complete portal and a handheld pc available with the citizens to access host of services they need irrespective of the fact whether they are in urban or rural areas using diverse technological resources at the back end bringing together truly integrated innovative utility model, said Menon.

| 07.21.06 (12:31 am) [edit] |
|
Chandigarh, July 20: Nasscom has complimented the Chandigarh Administration for the successful initiative of promoting the region as I.T. Destination. Speaking at the inaugural function of the e-Revolution 2006, Mr. Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom also cautioned the city to bear itself for the success and avoid the pit falls that Bangalore is facing these days. He said that it was heartening to see steps being taken to improve air connectivity by upgrading the international airport, but it was time to look for the possibilities of establishing a very high speed train between Delhi and Chandigarh which can traverse the distance in 60 to 90 minutes. Mr.Karnik also called upon the administration to set up a regional center for training and research in cyber crime, in which Nasscom would be willing to associate, since data security and intellectual property rights were the areas of deep concern. He informed that Nasscom was already training various enforcement agencies to tackle such incidents. Nasscom President pointed out that human resource is an area of deep concern for the IT industry and with current scenario by 2010 we might need half a million professionals. He said that it was also an opportunity for the country to provide employment to millions of unemployed. Advocating more liberalization in education system, Mr.Karnik suggested that education system must be liberated from the stranglehold of bureaucracy and institutes of higher learning should be set up with public private partnership which could provide world class education and skills to the people, required by the industry. Such institutes must also provide academic industry interface. Mr.Karnik said that IT industry was immensely contributing to the general economic development of the country, but the need was to percolate technological benefits without the need for the common man to interface directly with the technology. IT can help a common man and we need to do that how we can help him without his direct interaction or interface with technology. Many more such applications like railway reservation need to be brought in, he further added. Chandigarh Desk abcnewsnetwork
