Chandigarh, May 31:- National Foundation for Communal Harmony has invited applications for Communal Harmony Awards -- 2006 from individuals as well as organisations engaged in promoting national integrity and communal harmony and fraternity. The Award shall be announced on January 26. It is worthwhile to mention here that the National Foundation for Communal Harmony is an autonomous body set up by the Govt. of India, registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Foundation awards two awards, one for individual and the other for organisation. An individual is given cash award of Rs. 2 lakh and a citation in the individual category whereas an organisation is given cash award of Rs. 5 lakh besides a citation in the organization category. | The Government schools have improved their performance in the results of 10th class (CBSE) |

Chandigarh, May 27:- The Government schools have improved their performance in the results of 10th class (CBSE) this year. The pass percentage is 58.16 in 2005-06, while it was 56.65 the previous year (2004-05). 5,928 students appeared for 10th class from 77 government schools.
The Model schools (48 in number) have also improved their performances and have come out with flying colours. 73.58 percentage of the examinees have passed this year while it was 71.65 last year. The pass percentage of non-model schools have also improved with respect to the last year.
Neetika of Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Sector 37-B, has topped the government school segment in UT. She has scored 96.8 percent marks. (Her residential address is MIG 688/Phase 9, Mohali, Tel. No. 2210599, 9888860599).
Puneet Goyal of Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, is second among the government school students. He has scored 96.4 percent marks. (His residential address is 1745/23-B, Chd., Tel.No. 2716214).

Chandigarh May 26:- The Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Centre for Environment Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh organized a Eco-Quiz Competition on 26th May, 2006 for students of the Schools to further spread and strengthen the movement of protecting our environment through creative and action based programmes. 31 Schools participated in the event organized in Golden Jubilee Hall of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. R.K.Kohli, Coordinator of the Centre conducted the Quiz Competition. After screening round, teams of 6 schools qualified for other rounds. After the culmination of question, activity, visual and rapid fire round Ajit Karam Singh International Public Schools, Sector 41-B, Chandigarh represented by Kashish (Class Xth), Prerit and Harprinder (Class XI) won the Ist position. Carmel Convent School, Sector 9-B, Chandigarh represented by Priyanka Syal(Class X), Aditi Mehta & Gargi Dass (Class XI) won the IInd position and Sacred heart Sen. Sec.School, Sector 26, Chandigarh represented by Anandita (Class IX), Swantika and Harkirat(Class X) won the IIIrd position. Chandigarh May 25:- The U.T. Labour Department has increased the minimum rates of wages payable to monthly and daily rated employees. & nbsp; &n bsp; &nb sp; &nbs p;   ; As the cost of living has increased by 20 points of living index number the per point neutralization in minimum rates of wages for monthly rated employees under the Minimum Wages Act is Rs.5/- per point. Thus minimum rates for wages for each category of employees have been increased Rs.100/- per month on the increase of 20 points.

Chandigarh May 25:-The U.T. Excise and Taxation Department has invited applications for the grant of 36 more retail sale licnses of country liquor (L-14A) for the remaining period of the financial year 2006-07. The outlets have been categorized in two categories. In A category licence fee will be Rs.40.00 lacs and annual quota 57908-9375 PL in each license, while for category B it will be Rs.25.00 lacs and 36193 PL respectively. The Department has asked the applicants to apply on or before June 6 by 5.00 pm. The draw of lots shall take place on June 7, 2006 from 9.00 am onwards at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18 in the presence of the applicants who wish to be present on that day. Successful applicants would be required to deposit 30% license fee on the date of draw of lots on the spot and remaining 70% in two installments of 40% by 30th June and 30% by 30th September, 2006. In case of companies 100% license fee shall be payable within 24 hours of the grant of license. The Administration release stated that the detailed information regarding various levies on liquor, terms and conditions of the licenses etc. and prescribed application form could be obtained from the office of Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh on any working day between 09:00 A.M. to 05:00 P.M.. Chandigarh, May 22:- The Government of India has approved the status of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park. The Union Ministry of commerce & Industry has issued a notification in this regard. The sector specific Special Economic Zone IT Park for Electronics and Hardware, Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services in village Kishangarh has been approved as a SEZ. Now the companies investing in the Technology Park will be able to avail the benefits of the scheme immediately. Infosys was waiting for the approval of the SEZ as they have already constructed more than 4,50,000 sq. fts. of IT space for them to start operation immediately. The approval comes as a breather for all the companies who are looking to make Chandigarh as an investment and export destination. Meanwhile, Chandigarh Administration has also decided to apply for the extension of the SEZ scheme from Phase I to Phase II of the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park. | Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign in city |

Chandigarh May 19:- The Chandigarh Administration today appealed to the residents to bring their children upto 5 years of age to the nearby booths on Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign to be held on May 21. The U.T. Home-cum-Health Secretary, Mr.Krishna Mohan has asked the people to make polio eradication a success. He urged the people to cooperate with the health authorities in getting their children immunized against polio. He said polio vaccine would be administered to the targeted children at 461 booths including mobile allover the Union Territory. There are about 1.22 lac children in the age group of 0-5 years. Chandigarh :- The Department of Tourism, U.T., Chandigarh has decided to launch the services of recently empanelled tourist guides on May 11 alongwith the launching of the proposed taxi services. The guides will be helpful in attaining the Chandigarh Administration’s objective of providing facilitation to tourists and visitors to the City Beautiful. With this, tourism in Chandigarh will receive a big boost, the Director Tourism, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh.Vivek Atray has said. Sh.Atray has further added that the Administration has also approved the rates for tourist guide on the pattern of Delhi Tourism. A tourist guide will charge Rs.100 for an hour whereas for four hours (half day) the rate will be Rs.300. Similarly, Rs.500 has been fixed for eight hours (full day). The guides will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Tourism, Sh.Vinod Kalia (telephone Number-0172-5191118). Tourists or tourism agencies may also contact the Tourist Information Office, ISBT, Room No.84, Sector 17, Chandigarh on telephone numbers 2704614 and 2703839. It is worth while to mention here that the Department of Tourism has recently empanelled nine tourist guides for the convenience of the tourists visiting Chandigarh. Chandigarh :-In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 7 and Section 22 of the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952 and the rules made there under, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh is pleased to make the following amendment in the Scheme called “Chandigarh Conversion of Land Use of Industrial Sites into commercial Activity/Services in Industrial Area, Phase-I and II, Chandigarh Scheme, 2005” notified vide No.28/8/51-UTFI(3)-2005/6658 , dated 19.9.2005, namely:- 1. This scheme shall be called Chandigarh Conversion of land use of Industrial Sites into Commercial Activity/Services in Industrial Area, Phase I and II, Chandigarh(Amendment) Scheme, 2006.” 2. This shall come into force with immediate effect. 3. In the Chandigarh Conversion of land use of Industrial Sties into commercial Activity/Services in Industrial Area, Phase I and II, Chandigarh Scheme, 2005”, after existing clause 17, the following clauses shall be inserted, namely:- 18. Submission of building plan alongwith the conversion application is not mandatory requirement. However, revised building plans shall be got approved later. 19. Plot upto 2 kanals Industrial Area, Phase-II having architectural control shall be at par with the plots of Industrial Area, Phase-I. Norms on ground coverage, height, FAR Parking etc. shall be followed while getting the building plans approved. 20. On the pattern of liberalization of trade in the city shifting from one kind of manufacturing activity to any other manufacturing activity is allowed subject to observance of provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Hazardous Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989, Environmental Impact Assessment Notification, if applicable, and norms of the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. The change in trade (manufacturing activity) is allowed without conversion charges. Public Relations Department, Chandigarh Administration Press Note Chandigarh May 9:- Keeping in view the growing demand for parking space in the city, the Chandigarh Administration has allowed provision of twin level basements in certain categories of buildings. Where as provision of one basement shall be mandatory, twin level basements shall be provided if parking requirement generated by covered area of these buildings is not met through one basement. This facility has been allowed in Cinemas converted into Multiplexes, industrial sites of minimum one acre plot area which are converted into commercial usage after payment of conversion charges, Shopping Malls, Hotel sites on independent plots, commercial, Offices and Institutional sites (except educational and residential) comprising independent plots of one acre and above area, sites in Chandigarh Technology Park and special sites such as the proposed 11 storeyed Tower in City Centre, Sector 17. The twin level basement shall be provided within prescribed coverage norms and its area shall not be counted towards F.A.R. At least 75% area of these basements shall be used exclusively for the purpose of parking whereas the rest can be used for other purposes as prescribed in the Building Rules. The twin level basements shall be constructed as per the provisions of Building Rules regarding light and ventilation, fire safety, structural safety and prevention against surface drainage. 100% power back up shall be essentially provided in such basements. Keeping in view the height requirements for two basements and specialized services required for such buildings, a special relaxation in height has been given and maximum height of 27’-0” has been allowed Chandigarh Deskabcnewsnetwork

| The results of class 10th and 12th of CBSE in e-Sampark Centres |

Chandigarh, May 17:- Chandigarh Administration has decided that e-Sampark Centres in collaboration with National Informatics Center (NIC) would provide access to the students with regard to the results of class 10th and 12th of CBSE as and when the same will be declared by CBSE. Since all the e Sampark Centres are already functioning as Jan Sampark Centres, these 8 centres will open at 6.00 AM on the day of the result as compared to the regular timing of 8.00 AM. This will help the students to have access to the result at the click of the mouse and this service will be available to the students at a nominal price of Rs. 2 per print out of the result sheet. The access to the result is much more superior to the results accessed by mobiles, as the results provided by the e-Sampark Centres would be more elaborative as they will also provide the detailed result. This step has been initiated by the Chandigarh Administration in order to check the exorbitant rates charged by the cyber cafes. Chandigarh Deskabcnewsnetwork
